Find an Experienced Buyers’ Representative Real Estate Team: What to look for in a Mexico Agent!

More important than choosing the actual property is the process of choosing an experienced real estate team to guide you through the purchasing process.

Think about it, here in Mexico, the laws and regulations are not as mature and sophisticated as the laws from United States and Canada.  The safety nets that are in place in the United States may not exist in Mexico. Laying the responsibility on your real estate team to make sure you make a safe and secure purchase.

You need a real estate agent who knows the business culture in Mexico, knows how to speak and read in Spanish, they need to have experience reading contracts and titles. Your agent should have many years of experience in dealing with the Mexico real estate market.  Real estate in United States and in Canada is a whole different ball game than here in Mexico, so look for hands on experience in the Mexico.

It is important to find a full time real estate professional.   If this is a part time job, a hobby, or a source of extra spending money for them… you should definitely continue interviewing.   There are too many changes to the laws, too many properties and listings that are being introduced or pulled off of the market, and many variables occurring with developers, your agent needs to be up to speed on current market conditions.  You deserve a sharp real estate team, one that is continually looking out for your interests.

A realtor who is a professional will have credentials, will be continuously improving their knowledge and understanding of the real estate market, constantly learning more.  Look for a Mexico agent who has real estate diplomas, certificates and licenses.  Here in Mexico and depending upon the state, some licenses and registrations are required.  In the state of Quintana Roo, a new registration process is now required.  And if a realtor is serious, university degrees in Mexico are now attainable including a federal professional identification number.

Does the realtor you are interviewing have a support group or staff behind them to support your requirements and their work load?  Will they have the time to search for many property options?  Do they have a staff to help review your contracts and coordinate the closing process.   During the closing process, stress increases and monies start being released.  As a buyer, as a new buyer in a different county, you want to make sure you understand the process, and feel secure knowing  you have a full time team looking out for your monies and all of your interests.

Be organized right from the beginning will help you avoid many stressful situations, making your first investment purchase of your dream home... a wonderful adventure.  If you do not take the time in the beginning to hire on a professional real estate team, instead of a wonderful adventure you may have a stressful and expensive experience.
