Mexico Real Estate - What Will The Neighbors Be Like? Part 2 - Mexicans

Mexicans are very welcoming in general. They have a very distinct culture, but unlike many parts of Europe, the majority of Mexicans do not have a “protectionist” way of thinking; they don’t see outsiders or newcomers as a threat to their culture.  On the contrary, most feel that “gringos” have something good to offer their country.  This is not only in economic terms, but they also appreciate and like the North American way of thinking! (It’s very unlikely they would adopt it, but they do welcome it.)
Mexican Neighbors
When Americans and Canadians buy Mexico real estate, most will have a few middle-class (and perhaps even upper-class) Mexican neighbors; many of these will know English and will be people you can get to know as good neighbors.
 The Other Mexicans …
As most people very quickly realize, class distinctions are much clearer in Mexico than back home.  Most of those enjoying Mexico retirement (as well as other expats) will also have regular contact with the lower-income working class, perhaps the gardener or cleaning lady, or the guy who runs the convenience store on the corner.  Some will know some English, and will be as happy to chat.  Even those who don’t know any English may try to strike up a conversation; as your Spanish becomes better, you’ll find greeting, chatting and interacting with these people a pleasant experience.  They’ll definitely see you as a wealthy person (even if you’re nowhere near what you would consider “wealthy”) but it’s very rare that they would resent your financial comfort.
Neighborhood life in Mexico is just that – neighborly.  Back home, Americans and Canadians tend to be friendly but often somewhat distant.  Mexicans, in contrast, will be both friendly and very open to starting closer friendships; expats who have been in Mexico for a while usually pick this up.

Mexico Real Estate – What Are The Neighbors Like? Part 1 – Expats

When it comes right down to it, all of us will ask this question when we are looking for a new home, anywhere.  Yet, when buying Mexico real estate and jumping into a new culture, we just don’t know what to expect; what will the neighbors be like?  What kind of people will they be?  Are they easy to get along with?  Are they tasteful?
Retirement in Mexico
As anywhere, it’s never possible to predict with 100% certainty if you’ll like the neighbors or not, but in very general terms, it’s possible to give a short overview of what you can expect in Mexico.  On the whole, both expats and Mexicans are very welcoming and friendly.
 Expat Neighbors
Although it’s virtually impossible to count accurately, some estimates say there are about 1 million Americans living in Mexico, and about 300,000 Canadians.  Many of these are here for Mexico retirement, but there are also families, businessmen, investors and young adventurers. (“Young” adventurers will include those who have been young at heart for well over half a century.)  Many of these are concentrated in main tourist areas, so chances are, you will be living next door to some people from back home.  Like you, for some reason or another, they’ve decided to make the leap and move to Mexico – lower cost of living, richer culture, more relaxation, better weather, etc.  If nothing else, you’ll have that in common with them.  It’s also nice to talk to people who know where you’re coming from.  You’ll find that many expats have come to Mexico to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, so they will probably have picked up a bit more of Mexico’s relaxed lifestyle.
Expat neighbors will help you as you adapt to living in a new country and the adventures and misadventures you’ll encounter; they’ve been through most of that, too, and most are very willing to give a hand or a tip!
You will also find expats from Europe and South America.

Progreso, a colorful expat community in Yucatán

Progreso - this the port town for the city of Merida and the state of Yucatan. The town combines the colonial charm of old Mexico with the relaxation and laid-back lifestyle of the Caribbean. It is a place where the "rush" may be an odd thing that happens now and then when you go to the city - but at home? It's simply not a concept people know in day to day life. Beautiful beaches, palm trees, sunshine, colorful homes, relaxed people, smiling and friendly, fresh fruit an vegetables, delicious food and slow afternoons sipping coffee or beer on a sidewalk patio - these are the things life is made of, at least when you're in Progreso!

Campeche Mexico Best Kept Beachfront Secret

This beautiful, virgin beachfront is in the Mexican state of Campeche on the Gulf coast of the Yucatan peninsula. As the video shows, in many places this beachfront is virgin, still covered in seaweed, driftwood, and shells of many shapes and sizes.

Can you imagine owning a piece of beachfront like this one? Since the area is only now being discovered by the world of international tourism, Campeche Real Estate is still very affordable. A lot with 66 ft. of beachfront, and 1300 ft deep, with electricity, phone and water hook ups can be found as cheap as $64,900.

This cheap Mexico beachfront real estate is a great buy for retirees, families who want a vacation home, or anyone wishing to relocate to Mexico; your own beachfront dream home can be built for only about $100,000.

The area is also great for investors; Campeche is rising as a tourist hot-spot, and while it already offers many services, including international stores, excellent hospitals and great food and restaurants, there will be more to come in the future.

Mexico Real Estate Homes

How do you imagine your Mexico home? Perhaps a more traditional style home, with a red clay roof, stylistic arch ways, a pool with lounge chairs, and beyond and the waves of the awe-inspiring ocean crashing against the soft sand of the beachfront.

Or perhaps you imagine a contemporary home, with clean, straight lines, and a more minimalist look, overlooking the ocean from large windows, providing spectacular views from the comfort of your living room. Then again, you can combine the two; a modern style home, which includes elements of Mexico's rich architectural tradition, or local elements such as a thatched roof "palapa" shade, and a beautifully landscaped yard and garden to match.

Some buyers prefer close contact with nature, a construction which integrates the natural landscape, trees and plants, perhaps next to a beautiful lagoon or river, where you can watch wildlife or enjoy fishing. Others are looking for a project – a fixer-upper to convert into their own dream home, a relaxing walk away from the ocean, lakefront or tourist area.

Whatever your lifestyle, personal taste or budget, Mexico real estate has a home that will suite your needs, for vacation, retirement, relocating for work, or just a more relaxing life for your family.

Living in Mexico - Mexico Real Estate

Can you imagine living in Mexico? Perhaps some of the images that come to your mind are traditional old cities, with traditional restaurants and sidewalk cafes under the archways of colonial buildings, with a view of an amazing Cathedral. Or maybe the elegant streets of these same cities, with colorfully painted facades, and traditional street lamps, running past beautiful city squares and parks with flower gardens and benches for a place to relax and watch others walk by ...

Maybe you impression of Mexico is the beachfront with contemporary luxury, large pools, surrounded by palms and balcony with a view of the ocean, near modern conveniences. A drive can get you to a new shopping mall, with a large screen theater. The best part about living in Mexico is that you can enjoy the best of both, very near to each other, and sometimes even in the same place!
